HOW TO VIEW/EDIT YOUR COMMUNITY SETTINGS, PART III -OPTIONS
======================================================================

The third part of the Community Settings area is Options, which allows you to control many core features of an email community.

---------------------------
Access to the Options area:
---------------------------
To access and edit the Options Settings for your community:
1.  Go to any community you moderate (designated by an "M" symbol on the My ONElist page at: http://www.onelist.com/myonelist)
2.  Click on the Settings link in the left-hand bar
3.  Click on the Options link.
4.  Click on the Edit button.
5.  Make changes in any of the following areas (see below)
6.  Click on the Save Changes button.

-----------
Moderation:
-----------
Here you choose how message activity is treated by your community. Choose from the following options:

o Announcement/Newsletter (only moderators can post messages):
This is great if you want to publish a one-way newsletter.  Any messages sent to the community by non-moderators will be ignored.

o Moderated (you approve messages before distribution to this community):
This is great if you want to encourage others to contribute but you don't feel comfortable letting messages flow to your community unchecked by you.

o Unmoderated (messages go directly to all members of this community):
This is an open forum.  This is the option to choose if you want members to be able to freely and immediately share their messages with the community, unchecked by you.

o Moderate new members:
Choose this if you have a base of trusted members who you want to be unmoderated, but would like all new members who join to be moderated until you feel comfortable moving them to unmoderated status.

-----------
Membership:
-----------
This is similar to the Moderation, yet if applies to membership rather than messages.  Options include:

o Open:  Anyone can join.  This is great if you welcome the public at large to join.
o Restricted:  This allows you to screen people who are joining your list.

------------
Attachments:
------------
Some moderators choose to exclude message attachments from messages sent to their communities.  (Attachments can carry viruses, can fill up mailboxes quickly and are unreadable by some mail programs. If a message is sent to a list which does not accept them, the message will go through, but any attachments will be stripped.)  Your options are:

o Distribute email attachments (attachments will be directly forwarded to community members)
o Discard attachments (attachments sent with an email will be removed)

---------
Reply-To:
---------
This allows you to specify, when your members reply to a message sent from your community, whether the message goes to all members or just the sender of the message.  Options are:

o All (replies go to all members of this community)
o Author (replies go to the sender)

Most discussion communities are set as Reply-to All.

Replies to announcement-only communities will not be delivered, since only moderators can post.

------------
Notification:
------------
Check this box if you'd like to be notified whenever a member joins/leaves your community, or whenever there are pending messages which require approval

--------------
o Subject tag:
--------------
By default, a text tag is pre-pended to the subject line of each message from community members, for example, [onelist_moderators]. The subject tag serves the following purposes:

o Your members know that the message is coming from your community
o It can be useful in sorting and organizing email in your email program (filters, inbox assistants, message sort, etc.)

This option allows you to customize this subject tag.

Note:  ONElist recommends that you do not change the subject tag. The default tag is the name of your community, which is the most intuitive to your members.  However, if you decide to change it, make certain that the new subject tag is consistent with the theme of your community.

------------------
o Message trailer:
------------------
ONElist currently adds a default message trailer to all communities. This trailer contains important email addresses which allow members to easily subscribe, unsubscribe, send a message to the community, and send a message to the community owner (list owner).

The current default trailer is:

 Community email addresses:
    Post message: [communityname]@onelist.com
    Subscribe:    [communityname]-subscribe@o...
    Unsubscribe:  [communityname]-unsubscribe@o...
    List owner:   [communityname]@onelist.com

  Shortcut URL to this page:
     http://www.onelist.com/community/[communityname]

You can customize this message to add additional information about your community if you wish, such as a link to a Web page, a humorous quote, etc.
